HISTORICAL

CLASSES   

1.   PINKING & SLASHING RENAISSANCE SLEEVES & SLOPS: take away a sleeve using tips & tricks of pinking & slashing , and how to apply it to slops 3hrs

2.   VICTORIAN CAMISOLE USING HEIRLOOM SEWING: make a beautiful camisole to wear as an undergarment or top, using laces, entredeaux, pintucks embroidery & ribbons. Application into other garments will be discussed. 4hrs

3.   HISTORY OF THE APRON: you will make a vintage replica apron suitable for yourself or as a gift.  All eras of aprons will be discussed. 4hrs

4.   MAKING A RUFF BOARD & RUFF: discussion on how to make your own ruff board. Boards also available for sale. As well, you will construct an Elizabethan ruff. Various types of ruffs discussed.  3.5 hrs.

5.   CLOWNOLOGY: a look at clowns in history from all over the world. Clown costume tips & tricks. Choosing your character, pattern & accessories.  Students will leave with info on clowning, resources and a hands-on balloon animal. 2hrs

6.   DYING TO KNOW: a close-up demonstration of how to dye fabrics of different content using liquid & cold water dyes, tea & coffee.  1.5hrs

7.   PIRATE TALK & EVENTS: arrrrrrrh matey ! proper pirate speech & pirate events to attend. Class participation. 2 hrs.

8.   DRESSING THE PIRATE:  includes distressing techniques, historical/Hollywood/&cheap pirates…4hrs.

9.   THE FRENCH HOOD: class will focus on you making a French Hood with trimming techniques (not done with a sun visor) 2 hrs.

10.         GODEY TODAY: how to pick today’s fabrics to create gowns from Godey’s You will learn to coordinate fabrics & trims using what you bring and what’s available .  2.5hrs

        

11.         THE CHEMISE & Partlet: who wears it with what. You will make a partlet during class. 4hrs.

12.         MEN’S CLOTHING OF THE GOLD RUSH ERA: this lecture class will discuss work and dress clothing of the miners of the Victorian Era in the USA. Resources for pre-made & materials for making your own outfit are included 1hr.

13.         RIBBON TRIMMING: ribbon folding techniques for creating intricate trims for costuming. You will create a sample study board. 2hrs.

14.         EXQUISITE RIBBON FLOWERS:students will create, using Helen Gibbs’ methods, a beautiful ribbon flower suitable for hat or gown trimming.  Various types of flowers will be discussed.

15.         MAKING COSTUMES FOR PROFIT: includes theatre, rental, commissioned. Lecture and class discussion 2hrs.

16.         OVERVIEW OF VINTAGE PATTERNS 1930-1960: 1 hr lecture

17.         WHAT CENTURY IS THIS? & WHAT THEY WORE: learning what years span what century and identifying the clothing worn in that century. Lecture 1.5 hrs.

18.         WHAT’S  IN A FROG?  And it’s not ribbits. Discussion of various frog closures & where to use them. You will make one of these many variations. 1.5 hrs

19.         MILITARY UNIFORMS THROUGHOUT HISTORY AND SOURCES to find what you need. Lecture 1.5 hrs.

20.         CREATION OF THE BUSTLE & SIDE HOOPS..hands on you make one & lecture. 8 HRS.

21.         SILK RIBBON EMBROIDERY..how to use it & do it. Take home your own samples. 2.5 HRS

22.         BEADING &RHINESTONES FOR EMBELLISHMENTS. .you will make samples for a study board 3 HRS.

23.         OVERVIEW OF REGENCY COSTUME..includes men & women & a discussion of your regency persona 1.5 HRS.

24.         MENSWEAR IN MID TO LATE 19th CENTURY…ride um  cowboy..matching your persona to your clothing choices…lecture 1 HR.

25.         HAND MADE BUTTONHOLES..Take home your own handmade sample 1 Hr.

26.         FITTING A BODICE…all eras discussed bring your unmade bodice 3 HRS

27.         SHOE EMBELLISHMENT..bring your own shoe to work on..3 HRS.

28.         WHERE TO WEAR YOUR COSTUMES..Lecture & event list lecture 1 HR

29.         COSTUMES ON A BUDGET…bring in your garment we will show you how to trim it out and make it into a creation. 2HRS.

30.         THE MASQUERADE MASK..YOU will make one to take home. 1 HR.

31.         TRIMMING YOUR GOWNS..bring in your bodice, we help you decide on proper trims…fieldtrip available. 5 hrs.

32.         DRAPING…HANDS ON USING  our muslin rectangles kit 5 HRS.

33.         HAT MAKING FROM SCRATCH..you will make a hat form and cover it. If time permits you will trim it out as well. 4 HRS.

34.         PLEATING…ALL ASPECTS..you will take home your samples..setting pleats with vinegar 3 HRS.

35.         UNDERSTANDING & MAKING THE EDWARDIAN DRESS. You will make your dress 5 HRS.

36.         THE CORSET…DIFFERENCES OF TYPES, HOW TO CHOOSE IT, WEAR IT, & MAKE your own versatile Victorian Corset 8 HRS.

37.         FABRICS OF THE 16TH CENTURY & MODERN EQUIVALENTS demos , lectures & lots of samples from our marketplace. 2 HRS

38.         CHILDREN’S VICTORIAN CLOTHING..includes using today’s patterns and how to turn it into period costumes.3 HRS.

39.         GOLD BULLION EMBROIDERY ON A FOREPART you do it 8 HRS.

40.         FAUX PAINTING in set decorating. You will do samples of various techniques  3 HRS..

41.  THE ART OF MACHINE EMBROIDERY your instructor will introduce you to techniques in machine embroidery that closely resemble intricate hand embroidery and bullion work. demo and lecture, handouts 1.5 hrs.
